As a SENDCo, I have found the supportive and informative approach to assessing students attending our school invaluable. It has helped ensure that classroom-based intervention and pastoral support are aligned with each child’s needs, as well as with the support provided at home. The entire assessment process offers a strong, holistic structure, with the child firmly at the centre throughout. 

From the very first enquiry, to administrative liason, to the assessments themselves, the GAC team have shown care and compassion beyond our expectations as a family. Embarking on this process was daunting but we have no doubt that we did the right thing.We were needing assessments for both our son and daughter and the multidisciplinary team approach at the GAC really appealed to us.At all of our appointments every member of the team we interacted with put us and our children at ease and were able to engage with them so well. Nothing ever felt rushed and we felt we could take our time at each appointment.The follow up care after receiving diagnoses has also been phenomenal. The reports were extremely comprehensive and thorough and were delivered alongside meetings for us and also the children. We would like thank GAC for their caring, supportive and professional approach during my son’s recent adult autism assessment. It was quite a journey to get him to start the process due to his apprehension, but from first contact with Carla and the team this soon faded. We were reassured at every stage and each meeting was clearly explained so we knew what to expect, which really helped. We appreciated the way the team worked with us as individuals, put us at ease and really seemed to care. The experience was positive from start to finish, with the team going above and beyond in all respects, from my the initial telephone contact (asking lots of questions), efficient responses to emails, to their final in-depth report which included some personalised suggestions to help my son’s understanding of himself, enabling him to move forward positively. We feel so reassured to know that we also have the ongoing advice and support available from GAC post-diagnosis, if we need it as a family in the future.

From the moment I first made contact with the GAC I was impressed by their friendly and professional interactions. Carla is just amazing, so highly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced and the whole team have been incredible. From the initial chat, all the way to our son's diagnosis, every member of the team we spoke to was warm, knowledgeable and happy to guide us through the process, whilst keeping our son's voice at the centre of everything.

The service GAC provides is outstanding. Their skill, support, and understanding, were invaluable in helping our 16 year old son deal with the benefits and issues of being ADHD. Everything was described to him from a positive viewpoint. Their practitioners were calm, thoughtful, and approachable. GAC is also very well organised and kept us parents up to date with every stage of the process. They were also quick to respond to any queries. I can't recommend them highly enough.

What an amazing place ! We quickly gained his long overdue diagnosis of asd and adhd (he already had a dyslexia diagnosis) and the speed and efficiency of the whole team including amazing warm friendly and sensitive admin staff along with all the individuals who took my son through the steps of each individual meeting and assessments was amazing! All the staff are very warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and approachable and their combined talents and understanding of neurodiversity enabled my son to really open up and talk about the things that effect and challenge his day to day life. From start to finish the process was a couple of months (as apposed to years) for his full diagnosis. The after care service is also worth the world! This is taking the stress out of planning his education away from it being a fight just for me to sort, as they are contacting his school to ensure a plan is put in place and followed! It’s a breath of fresh air to find a place where you’re just not processed and sent away ! I know that there is now a whole team who has my sons back and will ensure at any point if things change or escalate will help me and him find the answers. This service does cost and I initially opted for it as time was against my son with where he is in schooling, (as apposed to the nhs which can take years) , and if I chose again I would do the same, as it is worth every penny. I will be encouraging any family in a similar situation to look at the bigger picture and do the same!!! I can hand on heart say this is the best money I have ever spent on my son and he will feel the benefits for the rest of his life and for that I am truly grateful for the whole team at GAC

I had a really positive experience with Carla at the centre. Carla is empathetic, very straight-talking and provided clear, practical guidance, which we found incredibly helpful. There’s a real sense of confidence that comes from years of experience, and the service feels genuinely authentic rather than clinical or impersonal. It’s a true “one-stop shop” with access to a range of specialists, which made the whole process much easier and less overwhelming. The surroundings are lovely and thoughtfully set up, helping children feel comfortable and at ease. What stood out most was how welcoming and inclusive they are. As a blended family, we felt completely understood and supported, with a real appreciation for different family situations. I wanted to share how pleased we were with the assessment process from start to finish with our older teenage son. Carla and the team were so responsive and attuned to his needs — carefully drawing out his quiet and, until now, somewhat hidden experiences of life and the world so that we all had a much better understanding of the things he struggles with, but also his amazing strengths. It truly has been a life-affirming experience that has brought me closer to my son. I felt so relieved to be in such capable and caring hands. I know how much trust is required to engage in this process — and I wouldn’t have trusted anyone else to do this. Both my Son and myself have been diagnosed by GAC. I found them helpful, caring and understanding. It was easy to relax whilst being assessed and i was able to be myself. My son isn’t always comfortable in new places but he was very happy to attend appointments alone. The whole experience was made very straightforward. My stepson had his assessment at The Gloucestershire Autism Centre and was diagnosed with ADHD and autism. After the report was completed, Carla spent a long time talking through the results with us. She explained how the assessment was carried out, how his specific presentation related to the diagnosis, and what our next steps could be.What really stood out was how much Carla wanted to make sure we truly understood how to support and care for him, rather than simply sending us the report without context.We have since continued with parent mentoring sessions with Carla, which have helped us feel far less alone while navigating the challenges that come with ADHD and autism. It has been incredibly valuable to have someone we can speak to about Freddie’s specific challenges, rather than relying on generic neurodiversity advice online.I can’t recommend their services highly enough.

From the start of the process to our child receiving his diagnosis, we have been highly impressed at all stages. The process felt quick, which really helped ease our anxieties (our son has been on an NHS waiting list and ‘lost’ in the system for years). The assessment process was robust and empathetic throughout, as well as being explained very clearly to all involved - including our son. This helped us all feel at ease. I expected this to be the case; having worked with Carla previously I cannot recommend her service enough. I would also like to highly rate everyone who was involved in my son’s assessment and the lovely admin team who coordinated everything so well. We finally feel validated - and heard. Thank you.

I came to GAC hoping to find some answers about myself and wanting any form of help as my mental state after certain experiences had not been the best. I had recently turned 18 at the time with not the best experiences of school and big friendship groups aside from a few friends that treated me well that I met later on. I was doubting myself a lot even after doing my own research and agreeing with most of the traits and experiences that other autistic people have had. The people at the GAC were really quick to respond to my forms and emails giving me plenty of notice for appointments and what was going to happen during the assessments. They made me feel very comfortable in the room (that looks more like a living room than an office which I appreciated) and when they were asking questions. I felt seen for the first time in ages and felt no judgment from them as I gave my answers.After my assessment was complete they gave me the option to find out the simple answer first before the full last meeting. I chose to have a video call where I was told that I am autistic and we talked a little about it before ending. For the final meeting, i was asked if I wanted my parents involved which I agreed to in the second half. We were told about the process of how they confirmed that I am autistic, what autism is and how it affects me as well as how I see the world based on my answers. A few days later, I was emailed my full report which I had a look at later with my parents. It was very detailed and included graphs about my results on scales such as masking and comparing it with the neurotypical average and the neurodiverse average. Safe to say I have lots of unmasking to do but I have felt much happier in life that I have for years.I can understand why I do things and ways to deal with when everything becomes too much. This process helped me realise that there was nothing wrong with me all this time and that I am just autistic. I can finally be myself and not worry so much about being perceived as weird all of the time and to give myself space when I need it. If people still find me weird after me explaining why then it’s their problem now, not mine. After befriending many new people (including plenty more neurodiverse friends) after my assessment I have stronger friendships than I used to have and we share our experiences with each other. University also plans my course in a way that is helpful to all students and gives support for neurodivergent students which I never would have known about before. I cannot thank the GAC enough for everything that they have done, they have changed my life for the better and have been very supportive throughout the assessment. I cannot recommend them enough, thank you team GAC (and Gwen the dog).

We were advised to seek out the services of GAC via our daughter's school SENCO, having failed to make progress via our GP, and it proved to be an extremely helpful recommendation. It felt like a very thorough and considered process, which never assumed that a ND diagnosis would definitely be provided, which was important to us.  The process was extremely well organised and administered, with everything explained and communicated very efficiently.  It was understandably a fairly intensive experience, but carefully paced over a number of appointments and reports.  We never felt rushed or like we were on a conveyor belt.  The final report was very helpful and evidenced a clear understanding of her character and difficulties.  The option to work with her school included in the process is very much appreciated, since this is where the ND characteristics were most stressful for her.  She has said she feels supported, affirmed and validated, which is a huge step forwards for her.  GAC seems particularly good at picking up what may have been missed elsewhere, which seems to be a fairly common occurrence for inattentive ADHD in girls. Our first experience having our daughter assessed with the lovely team at GAC was so good that I knew I could trust them when we decided to also get our younger daughter assessed. Everyone we had contact with was kind, helpful and prompt at responding to us. From the first phonecall to the aftercare, it feels personal, supportive and (perhaps most importantly for ND parents) - affirming! Thankyou Carla and the rest of the team for supporting us on our journey.

Thank you so much for all of the professional help you have given to Merry, and myself, over the last few months. Without doubt, this has changed Merry's life forever.

From the beginning of the process to the end, as a family we felt supported and listened to. We never, ever felt that any of the process was formulaic or hurried. A range of specialists were part of the dual assessment and considerable time was spent prior to embarking on the journey, to see if AuDHD was a 'likelihood'. We were all treated sensitively. The process was seamless and carefully explained at each step. The reports were detailed and accurate reflections of our child. I couldn't recommend GAC more highly. I have encountered them both professionally and personally and I have been equally impressed by their approach.

Choosing to work with the Gloucestershire Autism Centre was the best decision I could have made. From the first call through the assessment process to diagnosis Carla and her team have been fantastic. Claudia the administrator is super helpful and always responds to calls and emails quickly. Carla is knowledgeable, professional and very warm in her approach to both myself and husband during the day assessment process as well as our daughter. Since diagnosis the aftercare has been fantastic and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the team to anyone looking to explore a diagnosis for themselves or a child.

I cannot recommend the Gloucestershire Autism Centre highly enough! I was put in touch with Carla and her team after a child in my class received an autism diagnosis. Carla gave me a huge amount of advice that enabled me to support the child in my class to flourish and reach their full potential. This included follow-up sessions at the end of the year where we discussed his transition into his new class. The whole GAC team are professional and supportive, and it is clear that they have the needs of the child and their families at heart. As a class teacher, I felt that my point of view was listened to respectfully, and that Carla genuinely wanted to help as much as possible. I would encourage all families who want to support a child with autism to reach out to the GAC. I am beyond grateful for everything they have done!

I can't thank Carla and the team enough for what they have done for us. Life has been really hard and we have had to overcome many hurdles. For the first time, I feel heard by professionals who understand and want to help. We have been supported throughout the whole assessment and then diagnosis process, in a really positive way. Having decided to go ahead with a private assessment for our daughter, I didn't have to think twice about using GAC. I knew Carla, and how kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable she is having worked with her in the past, supporting adoptive families. Carla and all at GAC were fantastic, and the assessment process was smooth and efficient. The aftercare has been amazing too - giving my daughter the opportunity to process and digest her diagnosis and then come back in for a follow up session with Carla. There are open offers to speak to school and Uni when the time comes, to ensure our daughter has the support that she needs. Thank you to you all, but especially to Carla, who has supported us as a family with her usual kindness, compassion and also a fabulous sense of humour, which we all appreciated!

GAC was recommended to us by a consultant child & adolescent psychiatrist because we were keen on our daughter being assessed by a proper multidisciplinary team who would not be afraid to say 'no' to a diagnosis if appropriate. In fact we travelled a hundred miles for the reassurance of a reliable and robust assessment! It was very clear throughout the whole process that their assessments are inclusive and authoritative, blending clinical experience and wisdom with validated assessment tools. And it hasn't been 'here's your label, off you go' in any sense. Carla has continued to support us in understanding the areas of strength and difficulty for our daughter, including a 1:1 feedback session to help her to understand it all.

Our experience of the centre has been exceptional and, I'm given to understand, the report on our child's diagnosis much more thorough and extensive than we could have expected through the NHS. Ongoing support and advice is brilliant, and Carla has stressed that we can continue to access this going forward.

I can't recommend Carla and team more highly. Every step of the way they have been supportive and made the whole process of getting a diagnosis for our teenager a positive experience. We have seen immediate benefits of going through the assessment process. What a fantastic service. Starting off with an immediate telephone conversation with Carla. She explained how things work, the payments, the timescales, what is involved in the meetings, etc. Before we knew it we had appointment dates. My daughter was apprehensive of course, but Hannah immediately put her at ease as soon as she opened the door, with her warm, gentle approach. I then undertook a 3 hour Zoom interview with Rebecca, which flew by! Then a further meeting with Rebecca to pick up the results. Carla is going in to my daughter’s school to chat with them and we also have a follow up appointment for my daughter with Hannah so she can explain everything to her. Carla and her Team are amazing! So supportive and caring long after the diagnosis which parents of neurodiverse children need. Carla also met with my daughters class teacher which is so useful when you have a child who is 'ok' at school. I cannot thank them enough for their help with both our daughters but also for us as parents. We now have the confidence to know we are doing the right thing. My only regret is that I didn't write this review sooner.

I can’t recommend The Gloucestershire Autism Centre enough. The relief of finding somewhere that actually gets your child and sees them for the individual they are. My daughter feels happy and confident to speak to Carla which is amazing. The initial assessment has only been the beginning of their support. They have also gone into my daughter’s college and helped arrange things and have said they will do the same to university. I would happily recommend them and have already done so to a few people.

I have never felt understood until I came to the Gloucestershire Autism Centre. As a 22 year old I came in so nervous that I could barely speak, but after a few sessions with Karla, I opened up for the first time in my life. Coming here has completely changed my life. I feel so much securer in myself now, having an answer to why I find everything so difficult, that everyone else seems to find so easy! If you suspect that you have a neurological difference, getting an answer can help you understand why you don’t fit in with the world. 100% recommend, the whole team at The Gloucestershire Autism Centre are amazing. We needed an assessment for our 7 year old daughter, they are very thorough and honestly nothing is too much, they respond quickly and set clear expectations. They have so much expertise within their team, we felt like we were in such good hands every step of the way. My husband and I both agree this is the best money we have spent. This diagnosis, that would have taken years through the NHS, can now ensure she has access to support to help her adapt to the world around from an earlier stage. It was never about a label, it was about getting a support system in place to avoid potential mental health issues, the team were so understanding of this, they provided so many different ideas and links to resources that we weren't aware of and that actually have a positive impact. If you are sat on the fence, the best thing to do is get in contact and have an honest chat.

We have had a very positive experience with Rebecca and Carla at the Gloucester Autism Centre. Rebecca made us instantly at ease and we were able to share our experiences with our child. Carla has an amazing manner, we felt that in and hour and a half she knew our child better than all their teachers put together. Getting a diagnosis for our child has been a life changing uplifting experience for us all.

Carla and the team at GAC were great! So supportive and flexible to help with our assessment process, as well as supporting and signposting after the fact. Highly recommend using GAC rather than waiting for the NHS! Our assessment was acknowledged and recorded on our daughter's NHS records too, which has been a great help. We don’t really have the right words for the thanks we owe Carla, Rebecca and Team. There is not a single situation where I can imagine dropping our son off with a complete stranger (all whilst he had no idea what was happening) and walking away feeling such a sense of him being in safe hands. And once we picked him up, we could not believe how excited and content he was. It was like he’d spent an afternoon with his best friend. We would whole heartedly recommend you to any families in the same situation as us. And if you are reading this review and feeling overwhelmed and confused, please pick the phone up. That initial 15 minute informal chat was the moment that I felt we had been scooped up and everything would be ok. And I truly believe because of your support, we will be ok!

We have come so far with the support of Carla and her team! From the first phone call I knew that Carla totally understood both, what my daughter was experiencing and how it was impacting the whole family. The service is totally professional and yet so warm and supportive. My daughter would like to say a few words too:I first met Carla from the Gloucestershire Autism Centre back in February after I was diagnosed with autism and I’ve seen her regularly since then. I have found talking to her so helpful as I have been struggling with school and my emotions. She has helped me feel much better about things and reassured me that it is okay to feel like this.

Carla and her team have consistently exceeded expectations throughout our experience. From the initial pre-diagnosis meeting to ongoing post-assessment support, her approach has been both professional and empathetic. After years of navigating different services, we decided to pursue a private centre. It was a decision we wish we had made sooner. Carla has created a warm and supportive environment where my son feels comfortable and understood. He has made significant progress in self-awareness and confidence.

We know as a family how daunting it is to try and find a service to get a diagnosis for your child, it is a huge decision and these things do not come cheaply and you never really know if they really are going to help, . So after year's of getting nowhere with the educational system and the NHS right to choose, we finally took the plunge to go private and after speaking to many parents on different forum's, we were recommended the Gloucestershire Autism Centre and took the plunge. Honestly it was the best decision we have made. We cannot speak highly enough of the service provided by everyone here.

We can't recommend Gloucestershire Autism Centre highly enough. The support has been multi-faceted - from strategies for us as parents, to supporting our children, to general advice and expertise and connecting us with other experts. We couldn't have navigated the last 18 months without Carla's support.

Couldn’t recommend this centre enough! Carla, Tori and Rebecca have been fantastic from the very start right up until the final report. For something that is so complicated and can cause a lot of stress they have made the whole process so easy and my son is now finally in position where he is going to get access to the support he needs and deserves thanks to Carla and the team getting us through the process so swiftly. Even after the final report Carla has reiterated that they will continue to support us and they are always here should we need them and I truly believe that to be the case!

Carla and the team are extremely professional, knowledgeable, friendly and understanding. My son struggled to engage, but Carla went above and beyond to ensure he wasn’t overwhelmed and the assessment was completed to gold standard. Highly recommend.

I wholeheartedly recommend Carla and her team. The assessment process was thourough and conducted in a calm, professional manor with our daughter's needs always at the forefront. Carla has continued to offer suppport, liaising with the school SENCO and in ongoing sessions with our daughter. After years of struggling and not feeling understood she says that she has finally found someone who does understand her. Listening to her open up, smile and start to build some understanding and acceptance as to why, she is as she is, is truly wonderful. We have a way to go yet but thanks to the GAC we are on our way at last.

Carla took time to talk to my son, giving him space to express the things that he finds challenging in life. He is quiet, but found the conversation interesting. Carla tailored her approach to his preference for science and facts. It helped him to feel more at ease.

Carla has helped me in multiple ways. She has helped me understand myself and how I respond in situations....she helped me understand what I felt was bad/abnormal or wrong was not the case and that I am good, normal and right!

From the chat on the phone to the final report, we all felt assured that the process was smooth and clear. As a family we are now resourced to move forward, more educated and reassured.
